Filler FAQ
WHAT ARE DERMAL FILLERS?
hide
Dermal fillers are crystal-clear gels which are the same as a natural skin substance called hyaluronic acid. Replenishing hyaluronic acid rejuvenates and adds volume to the skin,
diminishing the appearance of lines and wrinkles and leaving patients with natural looking results.
ARE DERMAL FILLERS SAFE?
hide
The hyaluronic acid found in dermal fillers is not actually an acid. It is a "water-loving" molecule found naturally within the human body that keeps skin plump and hydrated.
Dermal filler products containing hyaluronic acid provide very natural and safe results.
WHAT DERMAL FILLERS DOES YOUR OFFICE USE?
hide
We use dermal fillers to smooth lines and naturally re-contour your face and neck to give you a younger, rejuvenated appearance without surgery. We choose the dermal fillers
that are the safest and give the best results for a more youthful appearance. The primary fillers we use are:
- Juvéderm
- Restylane
- Voluma
- Volbella
- Defyne / Refyne
- Lyft
WHAT SPECIFIC AREAS CAN BE TREATED WITH DERMAL FILLERS?
hide
Dermal fillers are ideal for softening smile lines and plumping thin lips, filling lower eyelid hollows and dark circles, raising cheeks, and lifting drooping brows. Dermal
fillers have also been used in treatments to create beautiful nose shapes and profiles, smooth chins as well as acne scars, provide fullness to earlobes, and straighten jawlines.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT DURING A DERMAL FILLER PROCEDURE?
hide
Dermal fillers are administered by injection.
First you will have a consultation with Dr. Hu. He will ask you what you would like to change about your appearance, and based on your goals, will determine which dermal filler is the best choice for you.
After the initial consultation, you can decide if you want to proceed with a treatment that day, or go home and think things over. In most cases, your procedure can be performed during the same visit as your consultation. The treatment consists
of a series of small injections. The number of injections and location depends on what you are trying to achieve with the treatment.
With minimal discomfort, this procedure is done in just minutes and usually requires minimal downtime for recovery afterward. You may have some redness, bruising or swelling right after the treatment. We recommend avoiding strenuous exercise
for the rest of the day.
HOW LONG WILL DERMAL FILLERS LAST?
hide
How long a filler lasts is dependent on how much product you receive, which filler you receive, and your metabolism. Some people break down the filler more quickly than others.
Dermal fillers tend to last the longest in areas that move the least. For example, treatment in your cheeks will most likely last longer than those in areas such as the lips.
CAN DERMAL FILLERS BE "UNDONE"?
hide
The dermal fillers used are reversible and can be adjusted very easily if you have second thoughts after the procedure. A touch-up or reversal can be performed with hyaluronidase,
a medication that dissolves the filler.

Dermal Fillers and Injectables
Dermal fillers are smooth, injectable gels that restore volume and fullness to aging skin to improve its appearance. Many fillers typically contain substances such as hyaluronic acid and calcium hydroxyapatite, that are found naturally
in the body but synthetically produced for cosmetic purposes.
We offer new and modified techniques and provide our patients with distinctive insights on what will be most effective for their needs. Our primary objective with dermal fillers is to provide temporary to long-last results that:
- Eliminate deep wrinkles and fine lines at the corners of the mouth
- Add volume and fullness to lips, cheeks and around the eyes
Types of Dermal Fillers and Injectables
We offer a variety of dermal fillers and injectables, each designed for one or more purposes. Some fillers work better in certain areas of the face than others. Some fillers are more fluid, while others are thicker. Some last only
a few months, while others can remain for more than a year.
We work closely with each patient to develop a personalized treatment plan, usually with a combination of fillers and injectables for the best possible results.
Some of the fillers we offer include:
- Juvéderm (including Voluma, Volbella, and Vollure): Nonanimal, biodegradable gel based on hyaluronic acid
- Restylane Lyft: Nonanimal, stabilized hyaluronic acid (NASHA) gel
- Restylane: (including Silk, Defyne, and Refyne): Natural biodegradable gel-based hyaluronic acid
- Sculptra: Synthetic, biocompatible poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA)
What to Expect
The entire procedure takes 30 to 60 minutes. The surgeon:
- Evaluates the patient and maps the injection sites on the face
- Uses a needle to inject the filler at the injection sites
Patients experience some discomfort, bruising and swelling, but usually not enough to require pain medication. Most patients return to work or other daily activities in four to 24 hours. Swelling usually goes away within 24 to 36 hours.
